Abstract :
This research aims to describe politeness principle based on conceptual theory proposed by Leech (1977) the proposed as a way of explaining has politeness operates in conversational exchanges. The six maxims proposed by Leech are tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement and sympathy maxims. This research took conversation consisting of approbation and modesty maxims used in several Disney movies as the data. This research is aimed to describe the approbation and modesty maxims which applied in the conversation appeared in each of several Disney Movies. First, there are three movies that are being analyzed. They are namely; Cinderella fairytale, Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin. Overall, there are eight conversation that contain approbation maxim and seven conversations containing modesty maxim. These maxims are applied in expressive form. Furthermore, social factors are also considered and analyzed due to their influence in the conversation in every analyzed data. The writer collects data by watching and quoting those movies. All of the findings are going to be discussed in this thesis. Keywords:approbation, modesty maxims, politeness principle
