Abstract :
Politeness is behavior that respectful and considerate of other people, it refers to the behaviors through which we routinely interact with the others (both linguistically and non linguistically) to effect a smooth, efficient, non-antagonistic, and mutually cooperative exchange. of ideas feelings, opinions, stances, and so forth. in accordance with the sets of social and cultural norms in which such interactiontakes place, and typically taking into account the mutual maintenance of the face of the interacting parties. Susan Strauss & Parastou Feiz, (2014:244). Politeness phenomena do not only occur in daily conversations, but also in the dialogue found in a movie. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince movie is one of the interesting subjects to be analyzed in terms of positive politeness strategies. This movie tells about the set during the sixth year of Harry Potter at Hogwarts, the movie explores the past of Harry's enemy, Lord Voldemort, and Harry's preparations for the final battle against Voldemort with the headmaster and his mentor Albus Dumbledore. Thus, the purposes of this research are (1) to describe the kinds of positive politeness strategies employed by the characters in Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince movie, (2) explain the factors that influence the character to use the strategy in Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince movie. This research employed descriptive qualitative research. It is done by collecting data, analyzing data that is a positive politeness strategy from the utterances of characters, giving explanations and drawing conclusions The data in this research is a form of utterance spoken by the characters in Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince movie. The results of this research are two points, the first point is the writer find 14 strategies from 15 strategies based on Brown and Levinson, the writer found 29 dialogues contained in the 14 strategies of Positive Politeness. The second point is the writer found 2 factor influences of the characters to employs the strategies, they are payoff and relevant circumstances.
