Abstract :
This study analyses the directive speech acts in the You, Me and Dupree movie. The purpose of this research is to find out the type of directive speech act , the form of directive speech act and any gender differences in the types and the forms of directive speech act used by characters in the movie. The researcher took data from the movie entitled You, Me and Dupree. This research is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The research data is taken from directive speech acts in conversations between characters in the movie. The instrument of this research is that researchers collect data, analyze, and present data on research findings and then draw conclusions from the results obtained. The result of research indicates one hundred ten data of directive speech acts. The analysis shows four types of directive speech acts uttered in movie. There are 46 data belong to command, 13 data belong to request, 30 data You, me and Dupree a belong to asking and 16 data belong to suggestion. The form of directive speech acts in You, Me and Dupree movie are imperative, interrogative, and declarative. Those are imperative 66 data, they are 44 data imperative used in command, 12 in suggestion and 9 in requests. Interrogative 2 data used in request, 2 in suggestion, 35 data used in asking. Then declarative 2 data used in command. Directive speech act in command was dominant and the characters often used imperative to get the hearer to do something action.
