ABSTRACT

Slang is generally considered as informal style of speech which is used by groups of people in particular community. To get the answer of the research questions, this study uses two theories. First is the theory formulated by Chapman (1988) about the types of slang classified into primary and secondary slang. Second is theory about the function of slang formulated by Zhou and Fan (2013). There are three functions of using slang : 1). Pursuit of self-identity, 2). To express emotive feeling of the slang users and 3). To achieving politeness. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was the fate of the furious movie script from subscene. The data were collected by downloading, reading the script intensively, selecting, classifying, and coding the data. At the result of this study, the researcher found 20 data which are divided into two types. 13 data include in primary slang and 7 data include in secondary slang. For the function of slang, the researcher found three functions, 5 data categorized in pursuit of self-identity, 9 data categorized to express emotive feeling of the slang users, and 6 data include in achieving politeness.
