ABSTRACT
It had been done antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activity of waterextracts ofkacapiring leaf (Gardenia jasminoidesEllis.) in mice. This study aimsto determine the antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects of the water extracts ofkacapiring leaf in mice and to find out the dosage of water extract of kacapiringleaf that can reduce body temperature and inflammation in mice. The waterextracts of kacapiring leaf were made in three various doses, there were 1.25 g /KgBB, 2.5 g / KgBB and 5 g / KgBB. The antipyretic effect was evaluated usingDPT (DiphtheriaPertusisTetanus) vaccine as fever inducer and Paracetamol 500mg as a positive control and anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated by creatingartificial edema on mice feet and using carrageenan 1% as edema inducer and 50mg diclofenac sodium as a positive control. The results of phytochemicalscreening showed that the water extracts of kacapiring leaf positively containedsaponins. The data were evaluated by measuring the body temperature and edemavolume of the leg of mice, later the percent of inflammation and percent ofinflammatory inhibition in 360 minutes of observation were calculated. The datawere analyzed by using Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Mann-Whitney test witha confidence level of 95%. The activity test results showed that the water extractof kacapiring leaf witha dose of 2.5 g / KgBB had the greatest antipyretic effectwith a total decrease in temperature of1,3
0
Cand the greatest anti-inflammatoryeffect with 55 % inhibition of inflammation.
