ABSTRACT
THE EFFECT OF PLUS MINUS INTERESTING STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMAN 1 BARANGKA

This research was conducted to find out whether there was a significant effect of Plus Minus Interesting strategy on students’ speaking ability at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Barangka or not. The design of the research was the pre-experimental research design (one group pre-test post-test design). The population of this research was the eleventh-grade science program (X1 MIA) of SMA Negeri 1 Barangka which consists of three classes, while the sample in this research was X1 MIA 1 class that consisted of 21 students and taken used simple random sampling technique. The instrument in this study was an oral test in asking and giving opinion related to the topic. In this research, the researcher conducted the research in three sections there were pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The researcher used Paired Sample T-test through SPSS 16.0 version to analyze the result of the research. The result shows that there is a significant effect of Plus Minus Interesting strategy on students’ speaking ability at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Barangka. It can be seen at the mean score of post-test. The mean score of post-test is 54.52, while the mean score of pre-test is 32.38. in order to prove the hypothesis, the researcher compares the value of Sig (2 Tailed) is 0.000 while the significant α value is 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the value of Sig (2 Tailed) is lower than the significant α value (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, H1 is accepted. It means that, there is a significant effect of Plus Minus Interesting strategy on students’ speaking ability at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Barangka.
