Abstract :
This thesis studies about The Effectiveness of Directed Reading Activity
Method in Teaching Reading to the Second Year Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Makassar. The problem statement of this research : (1). Is Direct Reading Activity Method effective in teaching reading? (2). What is the student’s attitude toward application of Direct Reading Activity Method? The objective of this research was to find out whether or not Directm Reading Activity method can stimulate the students’ ability in learning reading to the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Makassar. The method applied in this research was pre experimental. The sample of this research consisted of 20 students of the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Makassar. The writer used simple random sampling technique in this research. The writer used reading test that administered in the pre-test and post-test, and writer used questionnaire to know the
students’ attitude. The result of this research showed that the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Makassar had inadequate score in pre-test. However,
after doing the treatment by The Effectiveness of Direct Reading Activity
method their reading got high score in post-test. The data was analyzed by using t-test and the result shows that the t- test value (3.22) was greater than the t-table value (2.093). It can be concluded that the used of Direct Reading Activity method is very effective in teaching reading. The student’s attitude of the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Makassar in learning English reading was positive and more interested in learning English reading by using Direct Reading Activity.
