Abstract :
The result of the study indicated that the student’s reading ability in pretest and post-test was improved significantly. It was proved by the value of the t-test 7,18 which was greater than the critical value t-table 2.045 with the level of significance (p) = 0,05 and degree of freedom (N-1) = 24 the mean score of posttest 5,464 was greater than the mean score of pre-test 3,59. The score classification of students improved from poor to fair. The result of the research through questionnaire showed that they are interested in learning skimming and scanning because most of them answered interest and strongly interested. Based on the findings and discussion of the study, the writer drew a conclusion that the skimming and scanning technique can improve significantly the students’ reading ability at the second year of SMA 1 Majene.
