Abstract :
The objectives of the research are (1) To identify the kinds of emotive function presented in the novel Heart of the Matter, (2) To describe the emotive function performed by the characters in the novel Heart of the Matter. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive method. It involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data that ends with conclusion based on the analyzed data. The data collections of this research are in Emily Giffin’s novel “Heart of the Matter” which is published in 2010. In the collecting data, the writer uses note taking as instrument. In this research, the writer found that there are seven kinds of emotive function performed by the characters in the novel, they are; surprise, disappointment, displeasure, worry, pleasure, sympathy, and gratitude.
