Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to describe what kinds of translation procedures are applied by the participamts in translating the Ritual Tolak Bala text and to describe translation procedures dominantly applied by the participants in translating the Tolak Bala text. This type of research used in this study is qualitative descriptive document research. The tool used to obtain research data are the researcher himself and the data sheet. The population in this study was the 7 th semester students of English Departement students of Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji in the Academic year of 2019/2020. In this study, the researcher uses document analysis method. The researcher used the documentation method to collect the data from the participants. After collecting data, the researcher began the process of identification, the researcher organized the data by gathering the document, classified the data by placing the sentences that contain translation procedure, and determine what kind of translation procedures used by the participants. And the final step in analyzing the data, the researcher will explain each translation procedure used by the participants and what translation procedures dominantly used when the participants translating the text. Based on the data result, the researcher found that there were four kinds of translation procedures used by the participants, and the most dominant procedure used by the participants were Literal procedure in each sentence and the most translation procedure used by the participants in translating words in each sentence is the Equivalence procedures.
