Abstract :
The research aimed to find out the effect of Information Gap Technique in
teaching speaking skill at tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang.
This research used quantitative method which the data is served by numerical
and tested by statistical formula of t-test. The research design is quasiexperimental design. The sample of the research consisted of 30 students in X
RPL 3 as the experimental group and 30 students in X MM 1 as the control
group. The instrument used in this research was test. The oral test was used in
pre-test and post-test. The scores of pre-test and post-test were analyzed by
statistics descriptive test. Then, the data were tested by homogeneity, normality,
and hypothesis test. The data indicated that there was a significant difference
between the students? post-test. In this research, it can be seen that mean score
of experimental group was 74.00 while the mean score of control group was
69.23. From the test, the researcher found that the value of the t-test 2.666 was
higher than t-table 2.002 at the level significant 0.05 with degree of freedom 58.
Based on the result of t-test and the differences between mean score of
experimental and control group, it means that the null hypothesis is rejected and
the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that the Info rmation
Gap Technique has a significant effect on students? speaking skill at SMK
Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang.
