Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to describe how mind mapping can improve students? reading comprehension at the eighth -grade of MTs Negeri Tanjungpinang. The researcher conducted in the second grade of Junior High School especially the VIII-5 class of the academic year 2020-2021. The subject of this research consisted of 27 students. The researcher applied Classroom Action Research. The kinds of data were analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative data were obtained from the observation sheet. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were from pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II. In the pre-test, the students who got the score 70 or more were 9 of 27 students (33,3%). In the post-test of the cycle I, the students who got the score 70 or more were 16 of 27 students (59,25%). It means there was an improvement of about 25.95%. Meanwhile, in the post-test of cycle II, the students who got the score 70 or more were 20 of 27 students (74,1%). Based on the quantitative data above, the students? scores showed improvement from the first to the last test. Furthermore, the qualitative data showed that the use of mind mapping in descriptive text received positive responses from students in improving reading comprehension
