Abstract :
The purpose of the resarch is to see the effect of Talking Stick on students?
motivation in speaking at SMP Negeri 5 Tanjungpinang. This study used quasiexperiment. In this research, involved 40 students which divided into two classes.
25 students in 7.C as the experimental class and the learning process was taught
by applying Talking Stick and 25 students in 7.B class as the control class and the
learning process was taught by applying Odd and Even Group. This research
instrument used in this reaearch is quistionnaire. The researcher conducted a pretest then applied in both classes. After that, the researcher gave the post -test to see
the increase of the mean score after applying the treatment. The result of the pre test and post-test were analyzed using normality, homogeneity and paired sample
T Test. From the result of post test showed that the class was taught by applying
Talking Stick has higher mean score where the mean score of experimental class
in post-test was 73.60 and the mean score of control class in post-test was 70.30.
the students? mean score of the experimental class was higher than the control
class. Based on the result of the t-test and the differences between the mean score
of experimental class and control class, it can be concluded that applying Talking
Stick technique has a significant effect in students? motivation in speaking at seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Tanjungpinang
