Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Team Game
Tournament techniques on Simple Past Tense. The method that is used is a
quantitative method which the data is served by numerical and tested by statistic
formula of t-test. The research design is quasi-experimental which involves 38
students in VIII F as the experimental and 38 students at VIII B as the control
class. The experimental was taught by using the Game Tournament technique and
the control class was taught by using the EGRA techni que. The researcher gave
pretest before teaching learning activity has been finished, the researcher gave
posttest to know the students achievement of Simple Past Tense. The scores of
both pretest and posttest were analyzed by statistic descriptive test. T hen, the data
were test by normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test. From this
research, it can be seen that the mean score of experimental class was 77.36 while
the mean score of the control class was 72.50. The t -observation was 2.032 while
the t-table is significant 0.05 and df 37 was 2.026. It means that t -observation is
higher than t-table. Thus, the null hypothesis is rejected and an alternative
hypothesis is accepted. Based on the result of the t-test and the difference between
mean score of experimental class and control class, it can be concluded that the
Team Game Tournament technique has a significant effect on Simple Past Tense
at second Grade Students of SMP Negeri 5 Tanjungpinang.
