Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to analyze English words which contained Latin and Greek roots in scientific articles. The reason why the researcher chose this title was because the researcher wanted to know the origin of the roots in English, especially for scientific purposes. That was why the researcher used analysis method to know how Latin and Greek roots were used in English words. This research method used qualitative descriptive research method. The researcher dealt with library research. The researcher took an article from Natur e scientific journal as the data resource. The title of the article was Satellite Images Show China Going Green. First, the researcher read the article as a resource to know how Latin and Greek roots were used in English words. Then, the researcher identified the roots in the article. In this part, the researcher noted the roots. From the result, the researcher found 175 words in each paragraph which contained Latin and Greek roots. After that, the researcher analyzed the roots based on the etymology (root origin). The researcher also analyzed the roots based on the morphological modification and its meaning in English. Therefore, it can be concluded that the roots in English, both Latin and Greek, are used in scientific purposes.
