Abstract :
This study aims to find out whether roundtable technique is effective or not toward writing descriptive text at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Tanjungpinang. The method used in this study was a quantitative method using quasi-experimental design. Two classes were taken as the sample of the study as an experimental class and a control class. In this study, the researcher was applied online learning considering the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. The pre-test was given at the beginning of the study in each class, and then followed by given the treatment of the roundtable technique in writing descriptive text at the experimental class and small group discussion technique at the control class. After that, a post-test was given at the end of the study. Furthermore, the data was analyzed by using SPSS 21. From the data analysis, it was found that the results obtained in the independent sample t-test, that the value of significant generated Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < ? = 0.05. Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. So, it answers the hypotesis that using roundtable technique is effective toward writing descriptive text at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 3 Tanjungpinang
