Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to know the variation of students? pronunciation of word stress based on mother tongue at eight grade student at SMP Negeri 2 BINTAN. The research used a qualitative research as the methodology and the research subject are 12 students that taken by using purposive sampling, and they divided into 3 groups, which are; Chinese, Malay, Javanese. To do this research, the researcher use Pronunciation Test and Observation. The result of the test, Chinese students get 22 words mistaken in total 48 words, then Malay students get 41 words mistaken in total 48 words, and Javanese get 25 words mistaken in total 48 words. Based on the result if the test, it happened because of the correlation of the Mother Tongue affect the students? way to pronounce those English words.
