Skripsi, English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji. Advisors: (I) Assist. Prof. Satria Agust, S.S., M.Pd. (II) Assist. Prof. Dewi Murni, S.S., M.Hum. Keywords: correlation, reading interest, vocabulary mastery This purpose of the research was to know whether or not there is a significant correlation between students? reading interest towards vocabulary mastery at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 16 Tanjungpinang. In this research, the researcher focused on the correlation between students? reading interest towards vocabulary mastery. The researcher used quantitative research method. The sample of this research was 30 students at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 16 Tanjungpinang. In collecting the data of the research, the researcher the questionnaire consisted 20 statements for reading interest and the multiple choices test consisted 25 items for vocabulary mastery. The technique used to analyze the data by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Based on the data gotten by the researcher, the correlation variableof reading interest and vocabulary mastery was 0.563. it was seen from table strong enough of correlation, whereas the value significant was 0.000 which means lower than 0.05 (0.000 ? 0.05). Therefore, H0 is rejected, and Ha is accepted. From the result of the research, the researcher found that there is a significant correlation between students reading interest towards vocabulary mastery at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 16 Tanjungpinang.
