Abstract :
This research focus on with the Speech Acts. The goal of this research is to analyzed types of speech act that found in the video podcast. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The data for this research was taken from the video podcast entitled ?5 Smart Ways to Improve Your English Speaking Skills.? By English Speaking Success. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Searle?s theory of types of speech act. The researcher limit the research on analyzed types of speech act which found in the video podcast. The instrument for this researcher, is the researcher herself. The researcher conducted three steps to gather the data. Firstly, the researcher listened and watched to the podcast. YouTube used to listen and watched the podcast. Secondly, the researcher listened to the podcast repeatly and observed it. Thirdly, the researcher has classified the words based on types of speech act, wrote down the data, arranged the data into several parts based on classification and given comments why the words, utterances and sentence are included in the types of the speech act. Based on the data, the researcher found 22 utterances speech act in the video podcast. From the 22 utterances, then the researcher classified the utterances into types of speech acts. There are two types of speech acts found, which are; Locutionary (4 utterances), and Illocutionary (18 utterances). Then the illocutionary acts was classified again into 3 types. Assertive (11 utterances), Directives (5 utterances), and Commissive (2 utterances)
