Abstract :
The aim of this study was to find out the effect of using buzz group technique on students speaking skill in hortatory exposition at 11th grade of SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang. This research used quasi-experimental design. The population of this study was second semester 11th grade students at SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang with 74 students from two classes as a sample, 37 students in class XI MIPA 6 as the experimental class using buzz group technique, and 37 students in class XI MIPA 5 as the control class who were using conventional method. To know the effect of treatments, pre-test and post-test were done. In this study, the researcher used speaking test as the instrument. The result of data analysis showed there was significant effect of using buzz group technique on students? speaking skill in hortatory exposition text. It means that alternative (H?) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It could be seen from data calculated using samples T-test formula. Based on the data calculated, it could be seen from Sig. 2 tailed was 0.000. It means that there was significant Effect of Buzz Group Technique on students? speaking skill in hortatory exposition text at SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang because the sig. 2 tailed 0.000 > 0.05. Based on the findings, researcher suggest the teacher to use buzz group technique for teaching speaking, because this technique gave significant effect on students? speaking skill.
