Abstract :
This research is to get evidence of the use of mind mapping techniques in writing descriptive texts. The sample in this study was eighth grade students at SMPN 10 Tanjungpinang. Class 8.4 as the experimental class and class 8.5 as the control class. Each class consists of 31 students. The quasi-experiment was the design used in this research and the test was the instrument used in this research. 45.29 is the average value of the pretest experimental class while 60.39 is the average value of the posttest. On the other hand, 43.68 was the average pretest control class and 48.71 was the posttest average. In addition, the value of the t-test is 0.000<0.05. that is, the alternative hypothesis of this study is accepted. It can be interpreted that mind mapping has an effect on students' skills in writing descriptive texts at SMPN 10 Tanjungpinang
