Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the picture series technique on students' speaking skills on procedure text at SMAN 4 Tanjungpinang. The design of this research is quasi-experimental. This study took samples from the population of grade 11 students of SMAN 4 Tanjungpinang which amounted to 226 students. The researcher chose 2 classes as the research samples, the two classes were class 11 IPA 5 as the experimental class and class 11 IPA 6 as the control class. The researcher gave 2 different treatments to each class, the experimental class was given treatment using the picture series technique while the control class was given treatment using the expository method. The research was conducted in May 2023 and the results of the research conducted showed that the effect of using the picture series technique on students' speaking ability in learning procedure text was not better than students who were given treatment using the expository method. The Z test conducted by the researcher shows that the z0 value is 0.96 with a significance of 0.05 one-sided test, while the ztable value is 1.64 which shows that the z0 value < ztable then the null hypothesis is accepted. So it can be concluded that using picture series on students' speaking skills in learning procedure text is ineffective for grade 11 students of SMAN 4 Tanjungpinang.
