Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to find out wheather there was a correlation between students? vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 6 Tanjungpinang. This research included as the quantitative research. The scores of students? vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension obtained after they filled out the test. Each test consisted of 20 questions for students? vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension test. The object of this research was 31 students from class VIII. D at SMP Negeri 6 Tanjungpinang. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Pearson Product Moment through SPSS 20.00 for windows. The result of data analysis showed that rxy was 0.621. Then, the researcher compared the significance value with 0.05 is (0.000 < 0.05). The correlation between variable had a strong correlation with rxy was 0.621. So, the alternative hypothesis read that there was a strong correlation between students? vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension for the second grade students at SMP Negeri 6 Tanjungpinang.
