Abstract :
The purpose of the research was to find out types of errors did by the students commonly made in writing question tag. Question tag is short phrase such as ?isn?t it? or ?don?t you? that is added to the end of sentence to ask information. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The population of this research was one of third year of IX.6 class of SMP Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang, the total number of population were 32 students. The sample of this research used purposive sampling. The researcher used writing test of question tag as instrument. The researcher asked students to made five sentences of question tag such as present tense, past tense, present perfect tense, subject I of present tense, and imperative sentence. After that, the researcher collected and identified the errors that student made. Then, the researcher classified students errors based on their types. The result of this research showed that the students made errors in writing question tag, there were 23 students made errors of ignore of rule, 8 students made errors of incomplete application of rule, 32 students made errors of false hypothesis, and did not find error of ovegeneralization
