Abstract :
The research in teaching writing was aimed to knowing the effect of clustering technique. The topic used was descriptive text. The experiment used two groups of pre-test and post-test by the researchers. Students in grade VII of SMP Negeri 7 Tanjungpinang were the subjects of this study. To select one experimental class the purposive sampling technique was used that consisting of 45 students. The writing test was carried out to obtain data. The statistical calculations results showed that the lowest score in pre-test result was 50 and the highest was 80; the highest score in post-test result was 60 and the highest was 95 at experimental class. The t-count value with a significant of 0.000 was 7.181 by using T-table 1.482. The researcher concluded that sig 0.000 < 0.05 based on the data which means there is an effect of clustering technique in teaching writing skills.
