Abstract :
This objectives of this research are to analyze the difficulties of the students in comprehend English reading text and the factors influence the students? difficulties in reading comprehension at tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Tanjungpinang. This research used descriptive design of mix-method. The subjects of this research are the students of tenth grade at SMAN 2 Tanjungpinang. The data are results of the test and questionnaire for the students also the interview with the English teacher. The population of this research was 581 students and the sample was 45 students of class X10. The sample chosen was used purposive sampling. For the quantitative method, the researcher used some formulas and Ms. Excel to find the percentage of the students? difficulties and the factors. For the qualitative method, the researcher used data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. After analyzing the data, the researcher got the data which shows the students difficulties in identifying main idea (32,78%), inference making (64,44%), recognizing vocabulary (34,81%), specific information (33,61%), and finding reference (35,56%). As the result, the most difficult component for the students is inference making (64,44%). For the factors that influence the students? difficulties in reading comprehension there are two from the cognitive skill and metacognitive skill.
