Abstract :
A study observed how well students in grade ten comprehended descriptive texts. The study was participated by 32 tenth-grade students of Science 1 at SMAN 1 Siantan. The researcher classified students' reading comprehension using Jihad and Haris' assessments. The study found that the comprehension of descriptive text was categorized as good. Second, students had difficulty recognizing important ideas and recurring themes. Third, students have difficulty understanding what they read in English literature because they are not motivated to learn the language. Fourth, they are unable to understand the substance of a text due to a lack of reading techniques. Finally, reading carefully a text and trying to understand It taking from the five aspects of reading difficulties presented by the researcher, it can be concluded that the most significant reading challenges faced
by 10th-grade Science 1 students at SMAN 1 Siantan are related to background knowledge (64%) and lack of reading methods (67%).
