Abstract :
Empowerment of coastal communities is an important focus in efforts to improve community welfare and resilience to environmental and social changes. One form of empowerment program that integrates community participation is the empowerment program conducted by Yayasan CarbonEthics Indonesia in Dompak Island. The purpose of this research is to find out the dynamics of empowerment of coastal communities on Dompak Island in shaping access to alternative livelihoods by Yayasan CarbonEthics Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative method with 8 informants consisting of CarbonEthics staff, local stakeholders and people who are members of the fostered group. This research uses data collection techniques and tools in the form of observation interviews and documentation. The results found that in this study the Dompak Island community can participate in the empowerment program carried out by CarbonEthics to increase economic income through fostered groups such as the Dompak Laut Coastal Farmers (PPDL) with mangrove rehabilitation and monitoring activities, the Creative Economy Group-Tanjung Siambang which produces batik and soap crafts made from mangrove plants, and the Waste Bank with the craft of recycling waste into saleable items such as tissue holders and plastic bags. With this program, the community can get additional income which is used as an alternative livelihood.
