Abstract :
This study focuses on the grammatical mistakes eighth grades students? errors in writing recount texts. The study aimed to found out the most frequent error made by the students. This study was a qualitative research, qualitative research employs thoughts and perspectives gleaned from information sources to investigate empirical, systematic human or societal problems. The researcher selected 39 students from the class VIII-III as the sample. The study discovered that the overall number of errors were: omission (74 items or 22%), addition (44 items or 13%), misformation (188 items or 56%), and misordering (30 items or 9%). Misformation errors was the most common error committed by students, according to the surface approach taxonomy.
