Abstract :
The purpose of this research to determine the effect of using storytelling technique through classroom instruction toward students' speaking achievement. This study used a pre-experiment design using quantitative data analysis. The
subjects of this research were VIII B students in SMPN 3 Bintan which consist of 26 students. To obtain the data, the researcher used a speaking test. The researcher
used paired sample test to analyse the data and to find out whether the storytelling technique through classroom instruction has an effect on students' speaking skills.
Based on the results of data analysis, the significance value is 0.393 which is 0.393 > 0.05. In addition, the t-count value is 6.85 > t-table value of 2.06. This shows that H0 and H2 are rejected and H1 is accepted. It can be concluded that storytelling technique through classroom teaching has an effect on students' speaking ability in recount text
