Abstract :
Determining the effectiveness of using picture series as learning media in improving students' mastery of descriptive text writing at SMPN 11 Tanjungpinang is the objective of this study. Quasi-experimental quantitative method was used in this study. The purposive sampling technique was used in this study, on 58 students of the 2023/2024 school year, consisting of 29 students of class VII.5 (Experiment) and 29 students of class VII.3 (Control). The data of this study were taken by using descriptive text writing instruments for students, namely in the form of pre-test and post-test. The posttest results showed that the average score in the experimental class was higher than the control class (86.03 > 59.48). Based on the results of the Independent t-test hypothesis test, the Sig (2-tailed) value is 0.000 < (0.05), which means there is a significant difference between the two groups. It can be concluded that picture series has a significant effect on students' descriptive text writing at SMPN 11 Tanjungpinang.
