Abstract :
Slavery is a serious problem and one of the phenomena that are found in many countries since long time ago, especially in America. Slavery is a work system with only a brief interruptions to rest, and it takes up most of one?s time. 12 Years a Slave, a novel written by David Wilson, is one of very interesting novels which reflects the slavery. It portrays how the slavery works in America and the effort from the slaves to escape from the slavery. This research is aimed to find out the eidos of the characters in the novel and to find out the eidos of the novel itself. Deconstruction is used to conduct the research. The finding is that the Whites is the superior and the Blacks is the inferior. In addition, it is also found that there is no exact meaning in the text because text always produce various meaning that can be different from one another.
