Abstract :
This research an analysis of popular horror thriller films from various countries. In this study, researchers identified the characteristics of six horror thriller films. Researcher Identification of film characteristics using the element scheme of the horror genre. An analysis of the repertoire of elements is carried out to see how the characteristics of the film as a horror genre film seek conventions and discoveries from the film. This type of research is qualitative with descriptive method. The literature that the researcher uses in this research includes other films as text, film genre theory, horror films: a main genre, and film genre analysis: methodological studies. From the analysis that the researcher conducted, it was found that several genre characteristics were common in horror films. These characteristics include the use of a narrative plot that tells about the terror of a ghost, the presence of several terrifying characters as characters that threaten the lives of the characters in the film, the use of settings that have a mystical history in them, the presence of visual and sound iconography objects associated with the genre. horror, as well as several styles that are also commonly used in horror films. while the discoveries in horror films are culture that influences film differences.
