Abstract :
Methylene blue (MB) is a dye that is widely used in the textile industry, but because this dye waste is not easily biodegradable in the aquatic environment, it can cause water pollution, and if it exceeds the permissible threshold of about 5-10 mg/L adversely affect the aquatic environment. This study uses the AOP method (Advanced Oxidation Processes), which is a method of treating waste in the oxidation process. This study uses one of the processes included in the AOP, namely the Fenton process. In this process, H2O2 react with Fe . Nanocomposite CaO/Fe2O3 generates hydroxyl free radicals which decompose methylene blue contaminants. In this study CaO was used as a nanocomposite support which comes from chicken egg shells which are calcined at a temperature of 900?C for 4 hours, and Fe2O3 comes from Fe(NO3)3.9H2O,with variations in the mass composition of CaO with Fe(NO3)3.9H2O on CaO/Fe2O3. Nanocomposite Fe2O3/CaO nanocomposite was produced by wet impregnation method and then calcined at 600°C for 3 hours. The catalyst was then tested for FTIR, SEM, XRD and SAA. To carry out the methylene blue degradation process, 10 mL of 30% H2O2 and 0.5g Fe2O3/CaO catalyst were added with 100 mL of 10 ppm methylene blue solution. Furthermore, UV-Vis test and visual observations were carried out, where samples of 15 CaO 15 Fe showed the highest degradation rate and the best color change.
