Abstract :
The wire rope experienced an unexpected failure at the Kariangau container port,
this could cause work accidents and also disrupt the activities of the Kariangau
container port, therefore it is necessary to carry out a failure analysis. Research
on failure of wire rope type 6x36 IWRC on Rubber Tire Gantry ZPMC has been
carried out. This study aims to analyze the mechanism of failure of wire rope type
6x36 IWRC on Rubber Tire Gantry ZPMC and analyze the structure modeling of
wire rope type 6x36 IWRC on Rubber Tire Gantry ZPMC with the finite element
method. The methods used are SEM-EDS testing, optical microscope testing,
metallographic testing, simulation using ANSYS 17.2 software. The results of the
EDS SEM test show that there are many cracks on the surface far from the fault,
the beachmarks fault pattern is a fatigue failure. The results of the optical
microscope test showed that there was a concentration of stress on the inside of
the wire rope. The results of metallography showed that the microstructure of
ferrite and pearlite were evenly distributed and did not change the microstructure.
Static simulation 15 tons results obtained for Equivalent von misses maximum
stress of 475 MPa on the inner side of the wire rope is still below the yield
strength of the material and fatigue simulation is obtained for a constant load of
15 tons which is 13997 cycles compared to failure data of 1,5 years with 18000
cycles. Further investigation using miner rules stated that if the D value of 1,2 is
greater than 1, the wire rope will be damaged due to fatigue failure.
