Abstract :
History begins to be taught to children when they enter elementary school, one of the lessons
taught is the history of the heroes' struggle against colonialism. One of the national heroes who is
rarely discussed is Admiral Keumalahayati. Keumalahayati was the first female admiral in the
world and succeeded in defeating the Dutch troops. There are not many book sources that write
about the heroism of Admiral Keumalahayati, especially for children. Children will easily get bored
if the history books they read consist of a lot of text and not enough pictures, therefore books with
illustrations are recommended as learning materials. In this design, the author designed an
illustrated book for elementary school children aged 10-12 years as a fun and educative historical
education medium. The research method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method
with data collection methods in the form of literature studies and interviews. The result of this design
is an illustrated book entitled "Admiral Keumalahayati". The main media for this design are
illustrated books and supporting media in the form of X-Banners, bookmarks, pouches, drawstring
bags and key chains.
