Abstract :
The increasing use of services such as real time audio and video on the WLAN
network requires a guarantee of the Quality of Service (QoS). However due to the WLAN
using the protocols of Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) where there is no priority
traffic in shipping packages the data so that it does not provide warranties for the service,
especially in real time. 802.11 MAC Protocol introducing access methods i.e. Enhanced
Distributed Channel Access (EDCA). EDCA work by giving priority packet data before it
is sent and mengelompokkanya into 4 Access Categories (AC) so it helps mengimkan data
packet has been received intact and able to ensure real time service, however when doing
tranmisi traffic found collision between packages that cause a decrease in network
performance. For it is necessary to apply the mechanism of Request to Send (RTS) and
Clear to Send (CTS) which is used to overcome the collison with how to set the RTS
threshold value to see the State of the other station will do the process of transmission of
packets within at one time. This research used the value of the RTS threshold that is 256
bytes, 128 bytes, 512 bytes and 1024 bytes configured in the services Voice over Internet
Protocol (VoIP) and Video conferencing. The results of the simulation showed the best RTS
threshold values on a 512 bytes, for improving network performance when sending traffic,
marked by declining video services namely delay 2.52427 ms and 0.84842 ms voice, as well
as lower packet loss at video service that is 7.871135775% and the value of the voice of
2.962503454% Additionally increase the throughput on the voice service of 3.278845153
Mbps and 2.908660132 Mbps of video.
