Content Analysis of Covid-19 in Japan Through Online News Outlets: Bbc News and Japan Times

Abstract :
As of 14th May 2020, Japan officially uplift their declaration of the emergency condition in the nation, due to the shrinking numbers of new cases of COVID-19 as reported by BBC News and Japan Times concurrently. In order to find out how these online news articles may or may not lead or herd public perception or even the country?s politicians, it needs to be analyzed with a Qualitative Content Analysis in which it has it can de-construct corpus of texts, with the objective to achieve re-totalization, so as not to lose sight of the social core content of every statement in the article. The significant findings of this study are, yes these online news outlets may in fact lead or herd public opinion to a certain direction by structuring the contents of its articles to give spotlight to certain topics such as how Japan are excelling in handling the pandemic during that early phases in spite of their financial struggle, while also highlight different aspects such as an in-depth look of the healthcare system during early pandemic for The Japan Times, and for BBC News to highlight Japan?s economic struggles. This study is led by topics such as COVID-19, Japan, Japanese government policy, Constructivism, CNN to The Al-Jazeere Effect theory.
