Abstract :
Abstract: Coronary heart disease, one of the dangerous diseases caused by atherosclerosis. The occurrence of atherosclerosis is triggered increased levels of cholesterol in the blood. Carrots with beta-carotene could reduce levels of cholesterol in the blood. The aim of research to determine the effectiveness of raw carrots on cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemic mice. This type of research experiments to design randomized control-group pretest - post test design. The independent variable is a raw carrot, the dependent variable cholesterol levels. Samples are divided into control and treatment groups, each of 8 rats. Hypercholesterolemia by administering high-cholesterol diet. Treatment using raw carrots with 1.25cc dose for 3 days. Measurement of cholesterol levels using Touch Easy data analysis with Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney study period began May 15 to July 22, 2015. The results showed decreased cholesterol control mice as much as 12.5% (P = 0.069> ? = 0.05), and the treatment group as much as 37.5% (P = 0.208), but the statistical test showed no effect of raw carrots on blood cholesterol levels. While the effectiveness of the results between treatment and control group (P = 0528> ? = 0.05), indicating no effect of raw carrot to decreased levels of good cholesterol and a control group treated group. No decrease in cholesterol levels can be caused by factors beta carotene absorption easier if you boil carrots. Additionally only 3% beta carotene in raw carrots is released during digestion. Keywords: Hypercholesterolemia, carrots, beta-carotene, cholesterol
