Abstract :
The research entitled An Analysis of Interpersonal Meaning in Jack Ma?s Speech aims to describe the dominant interpersonal meanings used in Jack Ma?s speech based on the theory from Halliday (2014). This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study is from the utterences in form of sentence, and clause, while the data source of this study is from Jack Ma?s speech entitled innovation as natural as water which published on October, 2018. The researcher found three mood types and modality types used in Jack Ma?s speech. The moods are declarive mood, interrogative mood, and imperative mood. Declarative mood is the dominant types of mood in Jack Ma?s speech with the total number of 115 clauses or around 58.7%, followed by imperative mood with the total number of 63 clauses or around 32.14%, while the dominant modality is ?have to?. In addition, the overall dominant modality type exists in the high degree of obligation with the total percentage 39%, and the research discovers the different mood and modality that might affect the value of the speech to the audience.
