Abstract :
The process of adaptation from novel into film is a way for the literary readers in
enjoying literary works and even though the narrative text in the literary work is
converted into audio-visual version, it does not change the important points of the
story from the original source (novel). Hence, this process of converting from
novel into film version is known as ecranisation. Thus, related to the study of
ecranisation, through this research, the writer is interested in analyzing one of the
famous novels written by John Green that also being adapted into film version by
Josh Boone entitled The Fault in Our Stars.
In doing the analysis, the writer applied descriptive qualitative method and
proposed Eneste’s theory in analyzing the process of ecranisation that are divided
into three main points, they are; reduction, addition and modification. As the
result of this research, the writer found out that in the ecranisation process of plot
there are reduction, addition and modification, meanwhile in the ecranisation
process of characters and characterization, the writer only found reduction.
