Abstract :
Every human being must have the nature to act as a hero, both in the story and in the real world. The researcher chooses mythological novel Brandon Sanderson's Elantris The Curse of Holy City as the object of analysis. This research aims to analyzing and discussing heroism which is reflected in the main character in the novel, who can be interpreted as a hero using the Monomyth theory or Hero’s Journey from a mythologist, Joseph Campbell. In order to achieve the research objective, the writer applied descriptive qualitative method by describing the stages of monomyth in the form of narrative. Basically, the story unwittingly develops both myths and fairy tales, and also the authors make stories with similar patterns that is follow the pattern of Monomyth. In accomplishing the study, qualitative method is used as the method of analysis. Eventually, the result of this research shows that the story describes Joseph Campbell pattern of Monomyth, they are separation, initiation, and return.
