Abstract :
In delivering humorous stories, most of the stand-up comedian will express their
own language style and topic. The interesting point of stand-up comedian that
they can express their idea on the stage about anything, starts from certain
community, race, even culture and politics mostly in the form of satire and
sarcasm. In that case, this research is focusing in describing the political sarcasms
found in one of the stand-up comedy performances done by Trevor Noah entitled
Son of Patricia by using Critical Discourse study. Further, in doing the analysis,
the writer applied descriptive qualitative method and proposed Fairclough’s
theory of three- dimensional framework (2010) in order to analyze the critical
discourse. As the result of this research, it shows that in the stand-up comedy
performance of Trevor Noah with the theme entitled Son of Patricia, the speaker
(Trevor Noah) is using Donald Trump, the president of United States as the
central idea in making jokes because during his stand-up comedy performance,
Noah brings the idea of political sarcasm by telling all stupid things that Trump’s
said and done during his campaign and presidency. In addition, Trevor is telling
another form of political sarcasm that was happened in South Africa namely
Apartheid since for him personally, it was “the best†racism in the world.
