Abstract :
The Shack novel is a novel which illustrate the human’s belief to the God. A human
who has a spiritual journey in finding the answer of his question about why God
did not love him. In this research, there are two aspects which going to be explained
in this research. The first aspect shows how the process of the main character
development. The second aspect is the factors that influence Mack’s character. The
writer applies the Structuralism approach to find the objective and the writer also
used Structuralism theory by A. J. Greimas and Gustav Freytag’s theory about Plot.
By writing this paper, the writer wants to reveal the character development that
happened in the novel, the writer hopes that this study can give some benefits for
the reader to explore more knowledge especially in discussing character
development. The writer used the descriptive qualitative method. After the writer
analyzing the data, the writer finds the result. The finding result of this study is
Mack believes in God again because he understands how God loves his creation
and all the bad things that happen in his life are not because of God. Then, the
impact after he believes in God is because he understands about this life, about the
relationship with God and how to make a good relationship with other people. God
inform of Papa also explains Mack about love, goodness, and the reason why the
tragedy happened in Mack’s life. Those all have purposes. God wants his creation
has a good relationship with his creation.
