Abstract :
This study was purposely done to investigate the representation of the government in The Jakarta Post regarding the draft of Criminal Code Law. It revealed the representation of the government in the ten articles published from September 19th to October 3rd, 2019 when the protest in 2019 happened. During that period, The Jakarta Post brought up the news regarding the chaos related to the governmental system. Therefore, the research objective of this study was to reveal the representation of the government related to the draft of Criminal Code Law in The Jakarta Post by using Fairclough three-dimensional model. A qualitative method was employed in conducting this study since the researcher wanted to have an in-depth analysis of the data.Moreover, this research was library research in which the researcher obtained the information by downloading relevant journals, books, and visiting reliable websites.The three-dimensional model including textual analysis, discourse practice, and social practice were the stages for the researchers to analyze the news. The findings of this current study showed that The Jakarta Post represented the government regarding the debate of the draft of the Criminal Code in a way that did not represent the truth. It was on the protesters? side by building positive image towards the protest and it negatively represented the government by using words that indicated negative meanings. Moreover, The Jakarta Post blamed the government for the chaos since the government was the one that had a pivotal role in passing, postponing, and refusing the bills.
