Abstract :
Literary works are created in various themes and each of them is showing different
problem and one of the examples is psychopathic personality disorder. Thus,
regarding to that, the writer in this research is interested in analyzing psychopathic
personality disorder reflected by Francis Dolarhyde in Thomas Harris? Red Dragon
and described the cause. Further, in doing this research, the writer applied
psychological approach and conducts Hare?s theory of psychopath. As the result of
the research, it shows that regarding to Hare?s theory of psychopath, Francis
Dolarhyde is categorized as psychopath since he has the characteristics of
psychopathic disorder which found from the novel of Red Dragon, they are; high
intelligent and verbal intelligent, glibness or superficial charm, pathological lying,
manipulative, lack of remorse or guilt, grandiose self-worth, impulsivity and
antisocial. Moreover, the psychopathic disorder of Dolarhyde is caused by his
environment which in this case, he had bad experienced when he was a child from
people around him, such his own mother, grandmother, and his two step siblings.
