Abstract :
The research is entitled Hero?s Journey as Reflected in Mare Barrow Character of
Victoria Aveyard?s Red Queen. This study aims to reveal how Hero?s Journey is
described through Mare Barrow character from the novel Red Queen by Victoria
Aveyard, by applying Christian Vogler?s theory regarding the twelve stages of the
Hero?s Journey. The analysis uses thedialogues of the characters and narrations
included in the novel as its main data of study, then finding the contextual similarity to
Vogler?s stages of Hero?s Journey. This research uses descriptive qualitative method
as the study attempts to identify and describe Mare Barrow?s questand her adventure
in accordance Vogler?s theory of Hero?s Journey. The resultof the study shows that in
Mare Barrow?s character during her adventure in the novel Red Queen, contains all of
Vogler twelve stages of Hero?s Journey; starting from the stage of Ordinary World,
Call of the Adventure, Refusal of the Call, Meeting with the Mentor, Crossing the First
Threshold, Test, Allies and Enemies, Approach to the Innermost Cave, The Ordeal,
The Reward, The Road Back, Resurrection, and lastly Return with the Elixir. The novel
contains all of the twelve stages of the Hero?s Journey based on the dialogues of
characters and narrations found in the novel.
