Abstract :
The research is entitled Strategies of Translating the Subtitle of Mary Poppins Returns into Indonesian. This study is aimed to find out the subtitle strategies found in every scene of the movie that has been translated in Mary Pop?pins Returns movie through English subtitles into Indonesian subtitles, then clas?sify them into ten strategies. The unit of analysis of this research is every utter?ance which has one strategies of translating and is classified into ten strategies found in Mary Poppins Returns movie subtitles. The Source Language is English, and the Target Language is Indonesian as the data to be analyzed. This research used a descriptive qualitative method because the purpose of this study is to de?scribe and identify the types of translating strategies which are used in Mary Pop?pins Returns movie. The results of this research show that not all of parts translat?ing strategies are used, which are: dislocation strategy, decimation strategy, and transcription strategy. There are only seven strategies out of ten strategies applied by the translator in translating subtitle in the Mary Poppins Returns movie. The results show that there are 14 (4,50%) utterances of Expansion strategy, 21 (6,75%) utterances of Paraphrase strategy, 123 (39,45%) utterances of Transfer strategy, 13 (4,18%) utterances of Imitation strategy, 86 (27,65%) utterance of Condensation strategy, 18 (17,56%) utterance of deletion strategy, and 1 (0,32%) utterance of resignation strategy. Transfer is the strategy more frequently used by the subtitler in the movie. There are subtitles which the source language is translated complete?ly and correctly to the target language, and also each of words is translated by word to word or literally.
