Abstract :
This study aims to analyze the issue of racism and the meaning of racism contained in a novel entitled "Ghost Boys" written by Jewell Parker Rhodes. To find the issue of racism and the meaning of racism in this study using the Semiotic theory initiated by Ferdinand de Saussure. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method in analyzing the issue of racism contained in the novel Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes in the study in 47 data were analyzed. The results of this study indicate that there is an issue of racism that occurs to young children, where many white people oppress black people. The theory of semiotics discovered by Ferdinand de Saussure is the theory used in this study. This study uses a qualitative method in analyzing the issue of racism contained in the novel Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes. In this study there are 47 data analyzed and the results of the analysis showed that the issue of racism that occurs in the novel Ghost Boys often occurs to young children, where many white people oppress black people, especially children, who should be protected are actually victims of discrimination between black children and white children who are often called racist. In this study, there were several cases of racism issues, for example bullying, the difference between public space and private space, injustice, so that similar cases of racism against black people do not happen again.
