Abstract :
Sociolinguistics is a science that observes social habits through language. YouTube is a video-based entertainment platform that is often used by people in their daily lives in Indonesia, and there are language transfers in videos on this platform made by content creators, one of which is Gita Savitri. One part of sociolinguistics is code switching. Code switching is the transfer from one language to another. Poplack (1980) revealed three types of code switching: intra-sentential, intra-sentential, and tag-switching. There are also reasons for code-switching proposed by Holmes (2013), namely setting, participant features, and topic, and function aspects. This study aims to find the types and reasons for Gita Savitri's code-switching in her YouTube videos. This study uses the types of code-switching proposed by Poplack and the reasons for code-switching proposed by Holmes. This study found all types of code-switching in the data. There are twenty pieces of data in this study. Sixteen data use inter-sentential code-switching, four use inter-sentential code-switching, and two use tag switching. This research also has three reasons for using codeswitching by Gita Savitri. The aspect of function is the main reason for codeswitching done by Gita Savitri with fourteen data, followed by topic with seven data, and participant features with two data.
